Medical Examinations
Individuals who are applying for immigration status in Canada, their family members and dependant children who have not yet obtained Canadian citizens or permanent residents are required to undergo and pass a medical examination before their application can be submitted for admission to the country. Dependants outside Canada must undergo the same examination even if they do not intend to join the applicant. Such examinations are necessary in taking into account whether an applicant is medically permissible to Canada, the following legal test is applied: ”. . . a foreign national is inadmissible on health grounds if an assessment of their health condition has been made by an officer . . . and the officer concluded that the foreign national’s health condition is likely to be a danger to public health or public safety or might reasonably be expected to cause excessive demand.” The term ”excessive demand” is defined in the Regulations as:
All individuals applying for immigration status in Canada, their dependant children and all other family members are obligated to be examined by a “Designated Medical Practitioner” [DMP]. A DMP can be located in most countries. Medical rejections may be appealed in specific conditions.
