Study Permits
Persons who wish to study at a Canadian educational institution such as a university or college, may apply for a “Study Permit” which would grant the student permission to continue his or her studies in Canada as a temporary resident. For example, if an applicant is enrolled in a three year program at the university, he or she may be able to remain in Canada for the duration of their studies if a study permit is obtained. In order to be eligible for a study permit, the applicant must provide proof of registration in a Canadian institution and disclose proof of adequate finances that will be enough to support living expenses and tuition for the duration of his or her stay in Canada. In assessing whether or not to grant a study permit to an applicant, Canadian immigration authorities will assess the likelihood of the applicant returning to their native country after the completion of their studies in Canada.
